Philip J. Macaluso

Meet Philip

Since he was young, Philip loved to bring smiles to the faces of family and friends. When he was seven, he decided to spend his life bringing joy & laughter to others and he feels incredibly lucky to entertain audiences for a living. He takes inspiration from many sources, from the silent comedies of Chaplin and Keaton, to the witty dialogue of Shakespeare. He believes there’s something to learn from all forms of storytelling and he’s always on the lookout for new & amazing stories to bring to life.

Originally from Westchester, New York, Philip earned his B. A. in Drama from Vassar College in 2019, performing roles from the works of Shakespeare, Brecht, and Chekov. He’s also trained at The Studio/New York and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He came to Chicago in 2021 to explore the thriving theater community and learn from the comedy greats.

Some of Philip’s favorite on-stage roles include a Russian restauranteur in “The Origin of Language,” a cross-dressing doctor in “It Runs in the Family,” and the numerous characters & creatures he portrayed in “Failure: A Love Story.” He’s starred in many short films which have taken him to several diverse locations east of the Mississippi: from Nashville to Grand Rapids, from chilly Milwaukee to sunny New Jersey.

Philip is also an accomplished comedian, having performed at venues across the Chicago area. He’s a writer and performer of sketch comedy both onstage and online. He’s a founding member of Lemon Drops Comedy, a sketch comedy troupe whose online videos have amassed tens of thousands of views. Though odds are, you’ve seen him in some online ALDI ads which have been viewed a couple hundred thousand times.

When he’s not acting, Philip spends time with his amazing & supportive family, and attempts to catch up on tv, movies, books, theater, and video games.
